A Reason For Being...

ikigai (Japanese)

noun

 1. (n.) lit. “a reason for being”; a reason to get up in the morning to enjoy the meaning of life – passion, purpose, something one lives for.

Imagine Being Dead. Sorry. Not a great way to start an article. I’ll try not to mention death a lot but really picture a scenario where you are dead have passed away and are sitting around with your ghost buddies at the local slaughtering hole and just reminiscing about what it would be like to be alive for just one more day. What would you miss the most about life?

We all try not to think about being dead our demise, but more than often, it is questions like these that can completely change our whole outlook on life.

The thing that we all need to know and understand about life is that it’s unpredictable. You can prepare yourselves to make lemonade all you like but what if life hands you eggs? My point is that you can prepare to go out for a run the next day, but what if it starts raining cats and dogs? You can decide to sit inside and play videogames all evening but what if there’s a power cut? You can’t control what life throws at you. What you can control is going through with it with a smile and checking it off of your bucket list.

So think about it. With one extra day, you might want to sit and read and catch up on all the latest books or you might want to go out into the wild and just run. You might want to play games all night or if you’re really morbid you might want to be dead, not alive again, but whatever it is you might want to do that day, I guarantee that it will be an experience that you would not have had in literally a lifetime because the best part about life is the mystery and unexpectedness that we have every single day when you wake up in the morning.

Everyone has an Ikigai. So go out. Find yours.
